The Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), His Excellency Mr. Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, together with the Executive Secretary of SADC, His Excellency Mr. Elias M. Magosi, will participate in the 8th African Union (AU) Mid-Year Coordination Meeting to be held in El Alamein, Arab Republic of Egypt, on 04 October 2026.
The AU Mid-Year Coordination Meeting is the principal platform for engagement between the African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and Regional Mechanisms (RMs). The Meeting serves to strengthen institutional coordination, harmonise policy implementation, and advance Africa's continental integration agenda in line with the aspirations of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
The Meeting will provide an opportunity for African regional and continental institutions to review progress in the implementation of key integration priorities, enhance collaboration, and promote greater complementarity in support of sustainable socio-economic development across the continent.
As one of the African Union's eight recognised Regional Economic Communities, SADC continues to play a strategic role in promoting regional integration, trade facilitation, infrastructure development, peace and security, and sustainable development in Southern Africa. Through its participation in the Coordination Meeting, SADC will contribute to discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between regional and continental institutions and accelerating the achievement of Africa's development objectives.
The African Union recognises the following eight Regional Economic Communities:
Arab Maghreb Union (UMA);
Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA);
Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD);
East African Community (EAC);
Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS);
Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS);
Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD); and
Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Regional Mechanisms (RMs) are African Union-recognised institutions that support continental efforts in peace, security, conflict prevention, and stability, working in close cooperation with the Regional Economic Communities.
